Sally Hansen - Red Rebel

Hello everyone!

Today I'm showing you Sally Hansen's Red Rebel. I think one of my pet peeves when it comes to polish is when the name doesn't match the color. It's a small thing but it happens all the time with polishes. This is probably a good example of a color that doesn't match the name.

Red Rebel is a neon red orange jelly polish. This is four coats with a top coat. I bought this polish from Big Lots for only $1.50. I think this is an older polish from the Xtreme Wear collection because the cap is black and the newer ones are silver. I'm not positive if this is discontinued or not.

The application and formula was okay. Since it's a jelly, it's very sheer. I used four coats, but I can still see my nail line. This polish definitely needs a white base under it to bring the color out more and to lessen the coats.

The only gripe that I have about this polish is the fact that it's more orange than I expected. In the bottle up close, it looks more red, but I still love the color.

Overall, I really love this color. This would be a perfect color for the summer. I wish it was more red, but it's still a pretty color.

What do you think of this polish?

Sally Hansen Triple Shine -Sparkling Water

Hey everyone!

Today I have a swatch of one of Sally Hansen Triple Shine polishes Sparkling Water. I received this polish inside my Violet Box from Influenster (a full size at that!) to review. The other products I will get to next week, so look out for that post in the future!

Sparkling Water is a teal jelly base with blue and purple shimmer. This is three coats with a top coat. This polish retails for $4.99.

The formula for the polish was good. The application was a different story. The one thing that I hate about the polish is the bottle. The bottle is thin and long, which is different for a polish (or at least from what I've seen). Aesthetically, it looks really nice. Unfortunately, this kind of affects the application because the bottle is thin and the brush is wide so the polish starts to clump together. It's a small thing, but when you have polish collecting on the brush each time, it gets kind of annoying. Other than that, the application was good. The bottle just kind of got in the way.

I really like this polish. I don't have anything like this in my collection, so I was happy to receive this color in my box. I saw some other boxes and this is probably the most interesting one out of them all. I think I would buy some more if I had the chance. I saw some nice glitter and flakie polishes in the collection that looked really nice.

What do you think of this polish? Do you own any Triple Shine polishes yet?

Thanks for reading!

*I received this polish complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster

Sally Hansen-Cherry, Cherry Bang, Bang!

Hello everyone!

I wasn't going to do a Saturday post today, but I'm still trying to figure out what days would be best for me to post. Currently, I post on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but I hate having the gap between Saturday and Sunday. I'm also messing around with the time as well. If anyone has any suggestions as to what times are best to post, let me know!

For today, I have a swatch of Sally Hansen's Cherry, Cherry Bang, Bang! I used this as a base for a nail art design that I did a few days ago, which will be posted soon. I've worn this before once, but I forgot how pretty this color is!

sally-hansen-cherry-cherry-bang-bang

Cherry,Cherry Bang,Bang! is a purple with magenta undertones (purgenta? magenple? lol). This is two coats without a top coat. It's a little bit darker than what's showing in the photos, but I think it's because of the shine from the light.

This color is a part of the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure collection. I bought this on sale at CVS for around $3-4. I remember that it was 50% as well. Typically, these polishes run around $7-8, but I usually see these polishes on some sort of sale during the year. If you want to save some money for a good polish, I'd recommend getting them on sale.

sally-hansen-cherry-cherry-bang-bang

The formula was great to work it. I really had no problems with it. I also had no problems with the application. The Complete Salon Manicure polishes have a nice wide brush, which I love and makes it easier to apply the polish.

sally-hansen-cherry-cherry-bang-bang

sally-hansen-cherry-cherry-bang-bang

Overall, I would recommend buying this polish. Like I said earlier, these are a bit expensive, so I'd recommend getting them on sale if you're tight on money. I think it's a nice color to wear for the fall and winter, since it's darker but bright polish (if that makes sense lol), but you can wear it anytime of the year.

What do you think of this polish?

Cute Star Nails

Hello everyone! How are you all?

Today I have a cute nail art design for you today!

I originally had a different idea in mind for these nails, but I decided to save that one for a different time. I have a Spongebob poster in my room (don't laugh lol) and got the inspiration from that design, as far as how to do the stars, but I thought it would be best to just make a separate design from the poster.

Lately, certain ideas that I originally have to do nail art on bring out even more designs in my head. It's so complicated, but it's fun. Anyone else get that way?

cute-star-nails

For this design, I painted two coats of Sinful Colors Endless Blue as the base color. Using a detail brush, I freehanded the stars using Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow. To make the stars easier for me, I first drew a star (the easy way where you go up,down,up,across, down) and then filled in the empty spaces with the polish and made the points a little longer. Finally, I finished it off with China Glaze's Fairy Dust.

I think these are so adorable and they're very simple to do. I hope the star part was easy to understand. It was the only way I could try to describe it for you all lol.

This design looks great with long and short nails. You can also do these with any colors that you want. I really like the last pose that I did in these photos. It really shows off the stars well and in a way kind of connect them all together, which kind of happened on accident haha.

What do you think of this design? Have you created star nails before?

Until next time!

Halloween Mix n Match Nails

Hello everyone!

I don't really do holiday nails normally, but I decided to do some for Halloween. Halloween is probably one of my favorite holidays after Thanksgiving and Christmas. I really didn't want to do just one design on all my nails due to me being indecisive, so I decided to just do a mix n match of different designs.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the photos with my thumb in it. The thermostat at my house isn't working at the moment and it's making my wrist tendinitis act up due to no heat, so my poses with the thumb look so awkward lol.

halloween-mix-n-match-nails

For these Halloween nails, I did a variety of designs.

For the pinky, I was inspired by candy corn. First, I placed two pieces of striping tape onto my nail. With my detail brush, I painted Wet n Wild's French White Creme, Sally Hansen's Sunkissed, and Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow in the spaces. Once all the spaces were painted, I carefully took off the striping tape.

For the accent nail, I made a sugar skull. I first painted  one thick coat of Wet n Wild's French Creme. Next, I put two drops of top coat on the nail to stick the gems on for the eyes. With my detail brush, I made two lines for the nose and a long black circle for the mouth with Sinful Colors Black on Black. Going back with the detail brush, I made white squares inside the mouth for the teeth with Wet n Wild's French White Creme. For the dots around the eyes, I used a small dotting tool and created dots with Sinful Colors Pink Forever and Sinful Colors Why Not. I finished it off with three small dots below the eyes using Sinful Colors Black on Black.

For the middle finger, I was inspired by The Nailasaurus's Halloween Patchwork nails. I first painted two coats of Sally Hansen's Sunkissed. With a detail brush, I sectioned and filled in the different sections with different colors (Sinful Colors Pistache, Sinful Colors Amethyst, and Wet n Wild's French White Creme). Finally, I used Sinful Colors Black on Black to make the patchwork detail.

For the pointer, I did a simple dotticure. I painted my nail one coat of Sinful Colors Amethyst. With a dotting tool, I created dots using Sally Hansen's Sunkissed, Sinful Colors Pistache, Wet n Wild's French White Creme, and Sinful Colors Amethyst.

For the thumb, I created blood drips. I painted my nail one coat of Wet n Wild's French White Creme. With a dotting tool, I made four dots and connected them to the top of the nail making blood drips using Wet n Wild's I Red a Good Book. Finally, I made big dots at the tip of the drip.

I finished off all the designs with Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri top coat.

I really like these nails! They were fun to do. My favorite is the candy corn, sugar skull, and the blood drips.

What design do you like best? Any plans for Halloween?

31DC2013 Day 23: Inspired by a Movie

Hey everyone!

I'm really excited for these nails because it's inspired by one of my favorite movies: Kill Bill. I think I've seen the movie like 100 times already. In my sophomore year of college, I even did a monologue of Elle Driver's speech when she was killing Bud in the second movie. Needless to say, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I based my nails on one of the movie posters for the first movie. I've actually never seen this one before, but this is an official movie poster for the film. It's pretty cool and basically sums up the movie, so I thought it would be perfect to do a design around it. Now onto the design!

Colors Used:

Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow
O.P.I's A-Piers to be Tan
Sinful Colors Energetic Red
Sinful Colors Black on Black
Sinful Colors Slate
Wet n Wild's French White Creme
China Glaze Fairy Dust

31dc2013-day-23-inspired-by-movie

For the pinky, I based it on The Bride's signature yellow tracksuit. I used one coat of Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow as the base color. With a detail brush, I used Sinful Colors Black on Black to make a thick black line near the end of the nail.

The ring finger is based on the background of the poster. I used one coat of Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow and then with a piece of a makeup sponge, I sponged on Sinful Colors Energetic Red on half of the nail. With my detail brush, I wrote "Kill Bill" on the nail.

The middle finger is the Hanzo sword (or my attempt at the Hanzo sword haha). I used one coat of Mellow Yellow. With my detail brush, I made the sword's base using Sinful Colors Black on Black. The golden part of the sword I made a small square using O.P.I's A-Piers to be Tan. Finally, I made the sword blade with Sinful Colors Slate and made a thin white line as a highlight with Wet n Wild's French White Creme.

The pointer represents blood splatter. I used a coat of Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow. For the splatter, I used a cut up straw. I dipped one of the ends with Sinful Colors Energetic Red. Next, I blew into the straw to create the blood splatter.

The thumb represents The Bride's sleeve from her dress. With a very thin striper brush, I made a criss-cross pattern to resemble lace. Finally, I topped it off with China Glaze's Fairy Dust.

31dc2013-day-23-inspired-by-movie

I'm really proud of these nails and love how they came out! I'm still getting used to doing letters with my brush, but I think I'm getting better at it.

What do you think of this design? What's your favorite movie? Tomorrow is inspired by a book!

Until next time!

31DC2013 Day 9: Rainbow Nails

Hi everyone!

Today is rainbow nails! Each day is getting harder and harder as it goes by. I tried out so many rainbow designs and none of them really came out good except for this one.

Originally when I was practicing on my nail wheel, I used the darker rainbow colors. It looked good, but I wanted to do something a little different. I changed the colors to be a pastel rainbow instead of a regular rainbow. They look really cool. These took forever (and just for one hand!), but I think they came out great! Most of my designs are freehand, and I love that I can see the improvement from before when I tried these designs!

For today's design, I did freehand chevrons with pastel rainbow colors.

Colors Used:
Wet n Wild's French White Creme (base color)
Wet n Wild's Tickled Pink (rainbow)
Sinful Colors Orange Cream (rainbow)
Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow (rainbow)
Sinful Colors Pistache (rainbow)
Color Club's Take Me to Your Chateau (rainbow)
Sinful Colors Candy Coated (rainbow)

31DC2013 Day 9: Rainbow Nails

For this design, I first painted my nails with Wet n Wild's French White Creme. This will bring the colors out more, especially if it's a polish that isn't that opaque.

Once the white polish is dry, using a detail brush, I made a thin triangle shape for the chevrons. Then, I filled in the space with the polish. If you need to, you can go over with the polish to even out your chevron shape. Next, I repeated with all the other colors. Finally, I finished off with a top coat. If you want some extra sparkle, you can use a glitter top coat.

I love this design! It reminds me of Carebears for some reason. You can also try this design with different colors as well.

What do you think of this design? Tomorrow is gradient nails!

31DC2013 Day 3: Yellow Nails

Hello everyone!

It's day three and I'm surprised that I've been doing this everyday so far. I did want to take a break because I really liked my orange nails, but decided against it. Also, I unfortunately broke some nails on my left hand and since I hate having nails not the same length, I had to cut down the nails on my right hand. Oh well, I love nubbies either way!

For this day, I also had a hard time trying to pick a design. If having five oranges in your collection is bad enough, I only have three yellows total in my collection. Next to orange, yellow is my least favorite color. I like using it in nail art, but other than that, I really don't like it at all.

Even if I don't like yellow, I actually really liked this design that I came up with. I think the color combination is what made me like them a lot.

Colors Used:
Sally Hansen's Mellow Yellow
Wet n Wild's I Need a Refresh-mint
Wet n Wild's Kaleidoscope

I did a gradient for the majority of the nails and then topped it off with Wet n Wild's Kaleidoscope for a little glitter. For the accent nail, I free-handed triangles on my nail. Overall, I think it's a cute design.

31DC2013 Day 2: Orange Nails

Hey everyone!

Today was kind of busy for me.I didn't have enough time to work on my nails earlier because I had to go see a family member in the hospital. Once I got home, I rushed into the house and did this design real quick.
Plus, I had a hard time trying to figure out what to do with the color orange. Orange is not my favorite color, so I only have around five orange polishes in my collection. I tried at least 4 different designs and they just didn't look right with orange. Luckily, I came up with an idea in the hospital and it came out exactly how I imagined it, and that never happens!

Colors Used (from top of the nail):
Wet n Wild French White Creme
Sinful Colors Orange Creme
Sinful Colors Hazard
Sally Hansen's Sun Kissed
Sinful Colors Big Daddy
Top Coat: NYC Matte Me Crazy
Base Color: Sally Hansen's Polar Bare

31DC2013 Day 2: Orange Nails

I did an off white base and then I used a small dotting tool to do gradient dots with different shades of orange down the middle of the nail. To finish it off, I used a matte top coat. Overall, I'm really glad that they came out like this. I'm kind of sad that I'll have to take them off for the next color on the list.

Crayon Pop's "Bar Bar Bar" Inspired Mani

Hey everyone!

Today I have a quick and simple k-pop mani inspired by Crayon Pop's "Bar Bar Bar"! I absolutely love this song and it's been getting popular lately! It's so simple and infectious, I remember listening to it ten times straight one night. It's a really good song. If you're not a k-pop fan, I would suggest listening to this song. I've been meaning to do nail art for the video for awhile now but I got a little lazy haha.

I based my design on the helmet's worn in the video. To create this look, all you do is start off with two coats of white polish. Then, paint two straight lines in the middle of the nail with the colors of the outfits. Easy as that!

Maybelline Polka Dot Collection Swatches+Review

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the delay in posts this week. Like I said earlier, I went to my friend's house this week and the lighting was kind of bad there and I couldn't get many good photos. I'd rather have quality over quantity any day.

On the other hand, I have swatches of three of the new Maybelline Polka Dot Collection polishes. These polishes are jellies with black and white glitter distributed in it. I bought this at Rite Aid for $3.99 each. Not a bad price for polishes I must say! I only bought three colors because I wasn't really into the other shades that much. I'm contemplating buying the jade polish though. Let's move on with the review!

Maybelline Polka Dot Collection
This is Pretty in Polka, a sheer candy pink with black and white glitter. I used three coats for this swatch using the dab and swipe method. With all of these, I would probably suggest using a creme polish and then layering the polish on. It looks great by itself though. The drying time was also very good with this one.

Maybelline Polka Dot Collection
Blue Marks the Spot (such a creative name by the way!) is a sheer cerulean blue with black and white glitter. I did three coats of this polish and used the dab and swipe method as well. I had no problems with this polish as well, but I will say that it is very sheer for the first two coats. Once again, this would be best if you layered the polish over another blue polish, but it is pretty by itself.

Maybelline Polka Dot Collection
From left to right: Sinful Colors Energetic Red, Sinful Colors Island Coral, Sinful Colors Pistache, Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow
The last one that I'm showing you is Clearly Spotted. Clearly Spotted is a black and white glitter in clear polish. This is one coat over several different colors. This could be considered a dupe for Hard Candy's Black Tie Optional, but I actually prefer this to Black Tie Optional and it's a little bit different. For one, it doesn't have the straight glitter that always comes up with Black Tie Optional. It has the hexagon pieces  and the small black and white pieces, so I like that about this glitter.

Overall, these colors are absolutely amazing. The formulas are great, fast drying, and easy to work with. Granted with most glitters it can be a pain to take off, but overall these are great.

What do you think of these polishes?

Until next time!

This review was solely based on my honest opinion. I was not paid or asked to do this review for anyone.

Eyeball Kimono Nail Art

Hello everyone!

I have a unique, but simple design for you today. I love Japanese fashion, so I decided to create a design inspired by a kimono from a Kimono Fashion Show that I saw on Tokyofashion.com. Check out the link to see the actual design and photos from the show!

Colors Used:

Sinful Colors Pistache
Sinful Colors Energetic Red
Sinful Colors Sweet Nothing
Sinful Colors Black on Black
Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow
Sally Hansen Gray by Gray
Sally Hansen Cherry Cherry Bang Bang
Wet n Wild's French White Creme

Eyeball Kimono Nail Art

The design was really simple to do. Everything was done with different sized dotting tools. I wish I did a better job with the flowers, but I'm pretty satisfied with them.

What do you think of this design? What kind of fashion inspires you?

Until next time!
